About this trek
The Khumai Danda trek is an amazing trek with the most breathtaking views on Machhapuchhre (Fishtail).
Shorter Option (3 Days)
Short on time, but still want to reach Khumai Danda? Consider doing this:
- Day 1: Pokhara → Ghachok → Hile Kharka
- Day 2: Hile Kharka → Khumai Danda
- Day 3: Khumai Danda → Ghachok → Pokhara
You can do this with a jeep up to Ghachok and return the same way.
Itinerary
Pokhara → Hile Kharka (2,100m)
From Pokhara, drive to Ghachowk (1,400m) — the starting point of the trek. The trail climbs gently through farmland and forest to Hile Kharka, a quiet camping or teahouse area surrounded by pine trees. Highlights: Local village life, rhododendron forests, distant peaks of Annapurna and Lamjung Himal.
Hile Kharka → Samsur Danda (2,800m)
The trail becomes steeper and more scenic (rhododendron and oak forest). Samsur Daurali is a small ridge-top clearing used by shepherds — a perfect place for sunset views and mountain photography. Highlights: Occasional open ridges with views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail).
Samsur Danda → Khumai Danda (3,245m)
Arrive at Khumai Danda, viewpoint for Machhapuchhre Base Camp (south face). You will reach the highest point today (3,245m).
Khumai Danda → Gibli → Ghachok (1,250m)
A long downhill day. Descend through lush forest and traditional settlements.
Ghachok → Pokhara
Drive back to Pokhara, to end the trek.
