About this trek

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is one of Nepal’s most popular short routes, ideal for travelers who want a taste of the Annapurna region without venturing too high or remote. Over four days, the trail winds through terraced hillsides, forested paths, and traditional Gurung and Magar villages, offering an immersive blend of nature and culture.

The journey begins near Pokhara and follows the Modi Khola river up through lush valleys and charming settlements. The ascent to Ulleri—famous for its long stone staircase—sets the tone for the trek’s moderate challenge. From Ghorepani, a short early-morning hike leads to Poon Hill (3,210 m), one of Nepal’s most stunning viewpoints, where the sunrise over peaks like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre is truly unforgettable.

Each day brings a change of scenery, from rhododendron forests to wide mountain vistas and serene village life. The descent through Tadapani and Ghandruk adds a cultural highlight, with time to explore traditional Gurung homes and local museums before returning to Pokhara.

While it’s accessible to most trekkers with reasonable fitness, the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek still provides the full Himalayan experience—mountain panoramas, friendly locals, and the satisfaction of walking one of Nepal’s classic trails in just a few days.
